I specialise in creating 3D models, mostly using mobile devices, like phones, cameras and drones and process them paid or free apps. I also supply more professional deliverables for gaming, virtual production, mapping services, heritage and mixed reality and process these on a powerful desktop PC.

The 3D scanning techniques I teach are really simple for anyone at any age to learn.

Even if it’s a large street scene, most smartphones can copy it with unparalleled accuracy and realism. This makes spatial capture affordable, quick, and it gives the ability to interact with a scene by pinch, zooming and engaging in immersive virtual reality. This gives it a different feel and look over traditional photography and video on socials and websites.

Game Changer

One of the game changers of 3D capture arrived in 2023 and are 3D pixels called 3D Gaussian Splats (3DGS).

I personally consider 3DGS to be the photography of the 21st Century.

There are other methods for producing 3D models. These include photogrammetry (Photography & Geometry) and Light Distance and Ranging (LiDAR). Each has its own unique capabilities for 3D capture.

Drones are another capture device that allow larger areas to be copied in 3D and they don’t need to be professional level. The same movements as normal 3D scanning are used, ie making sure all the angles of the object are covered in photography or slow moving video.
